Ascot drives

Most of the big Ascot estates were broken up in the early 20th century, which left leafy roads of large houses set in their own grounds. On a long drive, the post works best where the car is parked, near the house, rather than out at the entrance.

Sunninghill is different. Its Victorian terraces near the High Street sit on narrow roads, and many have no off-street parking. A bollard only works on a drive you own, so if you park on the road, it isn't the answer.

In Sunningdale, some large houses on big plots along the A30 are being replaced by blocks of flats, and Berkeley is building apartments at Sunningdale Park. If your parking is shared or run by a management company, it decides what can be fitted.

Parking and your drive in Ascot and Sunningdale

Ascot, Sunninghill, South Ascot and Sunningdale are in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, which handles planning and parking. Most of North Ascot is in Bracknell Forest, so check which council covers your road. The Royal Borough's enforcement page sends blocked driveways to Thames Valley Police on 101, and it can't enforce advisory H-bar markings.

Every June, Royal Ascot brings temporary road orders. In 2026 there was no stopping on Ascot High Street between Windsor Road and Station Road, one-way systems on the A330 and A332, and a residents-only closure at the top of Burleigh Road. (source)

Questions from Ascot and Sunningdale

Do you cover Sunninghill, Sunningdale and North Ascot? Yes, the whole of SL5, including South Ascot and Cheapside.

Can you fit on a private road or gated estate? Yes, on a drive you own. If an estate company manages the road or the grounds, check its rules before you book.

Which council covers North Ascot? Mostly Bracknell Forest Council. The rest of SL5 is in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Someone keeps parking across my drive. What can I do? In the Royal Borough, the council sends blocked driveways to Thames Valley Police on 101. In North Ascot, report it to Bracknell Forest Council. A car on your drive itself is civil trespass. A fold-down post, from £279, keeps it clear, and our parking guide explains the rest.
