What makes a bollard heavy-duty?

Our heavy-duty post is wider, taller and deeper than a standard telescopic bollard. It's 90mm across instead of 76mm, stands 670mm above the drive instead of 500mm, and goes 950mm into the ground.

Inside, a 76.1mm steel sleeve reinforces the post for better impact performance. It locks upright with an integral push-button lock, so there's no padlock to cut. When it's down, a steel flap closes flush over the top.

It weighs 44kg overall and about 14kg to lift. If that's too much, look at our lift-assist bollards, where you lift about 7kg.

How fitting works

About two hours for one post. The hole is deeper than for a standard post, and we'll confirm timings with your price.

  1. Check and scan

We check utility records and scan the spot for buried cables and pipes before we touch the drive.

  2. Core the drive

We core drill through the surface and dig down 950mm for the sleeve.

  3. Set the sleeve

The ground sleeve goes in dead level and is set in concrete, so the post can't be pulled out.

  4. Make good and hand over

We make good the surface around the lid, test the post and hand you the keys.

Who is a heavy-duty bollard for?

  • Vans and 4x4s. Bigger vehicles need a bigger post in front of them. At 670mm, it's visible from the driver's seat and from the road.
  • High-value and frequently stolen cars. If your car is a common target for keyless theft, the extra strength is worth having. Read about keyless car theft in Hampshire.
  • Known theft hotspots. If cars have gone from your street, a heavy-duty post sends a clear message.
  • Business vehicles. Tradespeople's vans carry tools as well as value. We also fit for car parks and commercial sites.

All six colours are the same post at the same price. Choose black or grey to keep it discreet, or yellow or red to make it stand out.

How much does a heavy-duty bollard cost?

£795 per post, supplied and fitted, in any of the six colours. That includes the cable scan, coring, the sleeve set in concrete, making good, two keys and taking the waste away.

Each extra post on the same job is £50 less. We're not VAT registered, so the price you see is the price you pay. There's no survey fee or call-out charge for homes.

Questions about heavy-duty bollards

How much does a heavy-duty telescopic bollard cost?

£795 per post, supplied and fitted, in any of the six colours. Each extra post on the same job is £50 less, so two posts are £1,540.

How is it different from a standard telescopic bollard?

It's wider (90mm against 76mm), taller (670mm against 500mm) and deeper in the ground (950mm against 700mm). It also has a reinforced inner sleeve and an integral push-button lock.

How heavy is it to lift?

About 14kg. The post weighs 44kg overall. If that's too much, a lift-assist bollard brings it down to about 7kg.

Which colours can I choose?

Black, red, green, silver, yellow and grey. They're all the same post at the same price.

Will it fit my driveway?

We fit into block paving, tarmac, resin, concrete and most other hard surfaces. Gravel drives are fine too, with a small concrete pad around the lid. Very soft ground and sites that flood regularly aren't suitable.

Do I need planning permission?

Not usually for a bollard on your own private driveway. Listed buildings, conservation areas and shared access can be different. See our planning permission guide.

What if I lose a key?

Every bollard comes with two keys, and we can supply replacements or change the lock.

Where we fit

We fit across North Hampshire and Berkshire, from Basingstoke to Reading, Farnborough, Newbury, Andover and Winchester.
