Semis and the old aerodrome

Woodley grew fast between the wars. The Bulmershe estate was sold off in 107 lots in 1926, and houses went up along Loddon Bridge Road and Reading Road through the 1930s.

Around 6,000 aircraft were built at Woodley aerodrome between 1933 and 1962. The site was redeveloped for housing in the 1980s, and that's the Airfields estate today.

On a single-car drive, one telescopic post in front of the car is enough. On a wider drive, two posts close the gap, and the second is £50 less.

Keyless car theft

Thames Valley Police has warned residents in the Wokingham and Bracknell areas that thieves relay keyless fob signals, sometimes through a house wall. Our keyless theft guide covers the cheap fixes that help alongside a bollard.

Parking and your drive in Woodley

Most people think of Woodley as Reading, but it's in Wokingham Borough, so that's the council for planning, parking enforcement and H-bars. Wokingham charges a £100 application fee for an H-bar, then £75 a metre to paint it if it's approved. The line is advisory and can't be enforced.

In the town centre, Headley Road car park, outside Woodley Library, has 205 spaces, four of them with EV charging. (source)

Questions from Woodley

Do you cover Earley and Lower Earley too? Yes. They're on our Reading page, and the price is the same.

Do you fit on the Airfields estate? Yes, on a drive you own. If your deeds include covenants about the front of the house, check them first.

Can one post protect two cars? Not usually. A post stops the car parked in front of it, so two cars side by side need two posts.

Who do I call when someone blocks my drive in Woodley? Wokingham Borough Council, not Reading. Its enforcement officers can deal with a car blocking your dropped kerb from the road. If the car is parked on your drive itself, the police treat it as a civil matter. Our parking guide explains, and a fold-down post is £279 fitted.

Nearby areas we cover: Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell and Henley-on-Thames.
